Barbour are known throughout the world for their outerwear and in particular their range of jackets. What is often overlooked is their range of quality accessories to compliment your outfit and Barbour have proven in recent seasons that they are able to craft some functional bags which exude style.

Featuring an adjustable, detachable shoulder strap and 2 carry handles, the useful Explorer bag is lined internally with the iconic Barbour tartan lining. This is a bag that can be used all year round and is ideal for someone who travels a lot, be it for work or pleasure. Barbour’s Royal Warrants

As previously mentioned, Barbour has been awarded three Royal warrants by the British Royal Family. The first was awarded from the Duke of Edinburgh with the Queen following in his footsteps adding a second.  Prince Charles awarded the third and latest Royal Warrant in 1987.

Being connected with the Royal Family in this manner not only gives Barbour the distinction and pride of being associated with the monarchy but has also increased sales. Since Helen Mirren starred as the Queen in the film of the same name, sales of Barbour jackets doubled in New York. A similar hype was generated for the brand when Daniel Craig wore a version of the Sports Jacket in the Bond film, Skyfall.

Sophnet x Barbour Bedale Jacket

We are not sure how we have missed this one but it seems that Barbour have released a version of the classic Bedale jacket with the masters of minimal design; Sophnet. An eye-catching camouflage lining has been added to this traditional piece. Finished with a beeswax coating to make it water resistant, the jacket has also been given black buttons and a bold golden zipper.  The Bedale was released earlier this month for $599 USD from the official Sophnet website.

Barbour Bags From AW2013 Collection

Barbour BagsIt’s been a while since we featured any Barbour bags on the blog so we picked out these two gorgeous pieces from Barbour’s Autumn Winter 2013 collection. Presenting the Barbour Notch Explorer and the Barbour Loom Tarras Bag.  Both bags are part of the newly formed Dept B collection at Barbour which has been created this season to commemorate the Department B section of the Barbour factory, famous for the customisation of garments.

The larger Explorer bag is a quality wool/nylon mix travel holdall style bag featuring aniline leather trims. A spacious and luxurious piece, the Explorer would prove to be a great bag to take on your holidays or for someone who travels regularly for their job.

The more compact Loom Tarras bag is more like a bag that you might take to work with you to keep your paperwork in or maybe as part of your hand luggage when travelling.  Finished again in a wool/nylon mix, this satchel style bag again features aniline leather trims and two larger outer pockets.  Throw in to the mix an adjustable strap and you have a great multi functional bag.

The Barbour Academy

Barbour Academy

Barbour and Hartlepool college have teamed up to work together on the Barbour Academy.  Situated on the first floor of the Barbour factory in South Shields, the Academy introduces students from a range of programmes into skilled areas such as textiles and sewing as well as warehousing, leadership and management. Facilities include two ICT rooms, a teaching room and a practical machine area. Dependant on your interests, there could well be a part of the courses that suits you.

This really is a good move from Barbour, teaching basic skills to those wanting to be employed in the textiles industry.  Not only does it give the students skills to make them more employable, it gives Barbour a chance to spot talent in-house without the need to strengthen every now and then from the outside marketplace.  Students are promised an interview with Barbour at the accumulation of their studies.

If you are interested you can read more about the programme over on the Barbour website or by calling 0191 454 8455 and one of the staff can give you the information you require.

Barbour Commander Skyfall Jacket In Stock

Barbour Commander Jacket

We have heard from our good friends at Aphrodite that they have just taken in more stock of the much hyped Barbour Commander jacket.  If you haven’t heard of it already, the Commander jacket is a waxed jacket from the newly created Barbur Department B collection which takes over from the Barbour x Tokito collection. More notably, the jacket is the same as the one Daniel Craig wore in Skyfall.  The piece is a full wax sylkoil jacket with leather accents and Barbour Dept B embroidered branding on the pocket.

Pre orders have been flying out across UK menswear independent retailers but Aphrodite took their first batch in a couple of weeks ago which sold out within a few days.

Eager fans of the brand have been snapping these up whilst those who are in the market to make a quick few quid have bought them and put them straight onto places like Ebay and Gumtree, commanding figures up to £1,000.

Buy your Barbour Commander jacket from Aphrodite now at for £399.00 and let us know what you think

Where Is The Barbour Factory Shop

A little goldmine for Barbour fans can be discovered in the seaside town of South Shields.  This golden nugget is the Barbour factory shop.  Based on the site of the main Barbour factory where the products are made, there is a small shop with a wealth of bargains inside.

Upon entrance to the shop you will walk straight into an area housing this current seasons collection.  Anything that you have seen this season will be here, normally all priced up at full price.  Keep walking on through a doorway into the real treasure trove for Barbour bargain hunters.  Inside here you will find a mixture of stock from last season including your perennial Barbour Liddesdale jackets across both men and womens styles as well as children. If you are really lucky you might find something that has a slight fault.  Anything other than perfect can’t be sold via independant retailers so Barbour sell them through the factory store.  A slight problem with the stitching inside could see a reduction of half price or more.

The address to pop into your sat nav is:

Barbour Factory Shop
Monks Way, Bede Trading Estate
Jarrow NE32 3HL

Opening times may during holiday times etc.  You can check out more details via the Barbour Official site or give the factory store a call on 191 4284707

Take your credit card because you might end up buying more than you expect!  Let us know what you think if you go there.
